Leaving Earth Project Collaborators

I am proud to introduce my collaborators so far on the Leaving Earth Project.

All these institutions, individuals, and community groups have supported Leaving Earth by providing material or financial support, spaces for workshops, and collaborative opportunities. Artist Collaborators are working independently with their own communities to create artwork for the book. Please reach out to me via email if you are interested in becoming a collaborator.

Artist Collaborators - The Bookmark Collective

This global collective is an international collaboration between artists from Eastern and Western Europe, North and South America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

I’m excited to add such diverse terrains, experiences and practices to the Leaving Earth Project.

Leaving Earth at Cambridge Artworks

Cambridge Artworks is an artist-run cooperative in Cambridge, England. They are a vibrant community of artists who engage with the local community through workshops and other arts-related outreach.

I was able to offer several public workshops during my time as an artist-in-residence. Workshops took place outside and on various sites of ecological interest nearby.

Artist Collaborator: Alia Malley

Artist Alia Malley works with photography, video, and scent to explore roles and expectations of environment, human geography, technology, and the instability of the power structures within those relationships. Alia created Leaving Earth 6-25-22 for a scent installation in collaboration with Amanda Mears, for Amanda’s 2022 Studio Systems residency, at Torrance Art Museum, Torrance, CA.

Scent notes: Walking alongside a temperate river with soft earth underfoot | water & loss | a loamy understory | wet woods and the sun shimmering through the clouds after the rain

Leaving Earth at The Fitzwilliam Museum

I was excited to be a Visiting Artist at Cambridge University’s Fitzwilliam Museum hosting two workshops for Leaving Earth in September 2022.

Everyone was so engaged and happy to be part of a big project like this. Their drawings will be an amazing addition to the book. When asked how the day went, one young participant wrote FUN in huge letters. It was a fantastic day.

Leaving Earth at Torrance Art Museum

Torrance Art Museum in California is the premier visual art space to view contemporary art in the South Bay. They invited me and my Leaving Earth Project to participate in their June 2022 month-long Studio Systems Residency program.

During the residency I held two public workshops at the museum where participants recorded plant shadows through photographing and drawing outside. People of all ages took part and added their marks to sheets of paper that will eventually become a part of the Leaving Earth book.

Artist Collaborator: Laura Fox

Artist and educator Laura Fox reached out to me with the idea of engaging her young students in a collaborative drawing for Leaving Earth. They drew outside in an ancient woodland, capturing the shapes around them. The rain helped too with some fabulous ink blurs.

Laura views time in the woods as mapping existence. Each footprint in the earth has an impact. It all resonates and leaves a trace.

Her work is a quiet activism. Facilitating connection to nature, which feels like an ever-increasing vital need.
